　　Let Ss summarize the differences between –ing form and to do form used as subject.

　　Suggested Answers:

　　(1) –ing做主語(yǔ)時(shí),表示一般的，抽象概念;而to do做主語(yǔ),表示具體的特定情景下或有待于完成的動(dòng)作。如：

　�、� To finish such a long novel will take me several days.(“to finish such a long novel” 表示具體的, 尚未完成的動(dòng)作)

　　② Swimming is good for health, but to swim in such a polluted river is harmful to health.(“ to swim in such a polluted river” 指特定情景下的動(dòng)作)

　　(2) 當(dāng)it為形式主語(yǔ)時(shí)，兩者常可以互用。如：

　�、� It’s difficult to make the air clean.

　�、� It’s difficult making the air clean.

　　(3) necessary, important后只用不定式。如：

　　①I(mǎi)t is necessary to spend enough time on English if you want to learn it well.

　　② It is important to keep our classroom clean.

　　(4) no use, no good, a waste of time后常用動(dòng)名詞。如：

　�、� It is no use crying.

　　② It is no good cheating in the exams.

　　③ It is a waste of time reading a silly book like this.

　　Teaching procedures:

　　Step 1. Revision

　　Check the Grammar exercises in the workbook on P85-86.

　　Step 2. Task

　　Purpose: To enable Ss to say something about their likes and dislikes in arts.

　　1. Ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss their likes and dislikes in arts.

　　2. Choose some Ss to present their interview on their likes and dislikes in arts.

　　Step 3. Writing

　　Purpose: To enable Ss to learn how to write a paragraph that begins with the topic sentence.

　　1. Group Work

　　Ask Ss to read the Reading and Vocabulary again and find out the topic sentences.

　　Suggested Answers:

　　The first sentences of paragraphs A-D are topic sentences.

　　2. Pair Work

　　Let Ss look at the sentences in Activity 1on P38. Put them into the right order to make a paragraph. (Tips: Find out the topic sentence first.)
